More About Lisa
Lisa Johnson, CPA, helps nonprofits and businesses with accounting, audit and tax services. With clients ranging from nonprofits to private schools to employee benefit plans to construction contractors, Lisa holds a special place in her heart for helping nonprofits grow. She is co-director of the firm's Nonprofit Group.
As a nonprofit board member, Lisa understands the day-to-day struggles that nonprofits face. Lisa is passionate about finding ways to help her clients become more efficient whether it’s helping them strengthen their infrastructure, comply with complex government regulations or better understand their financial position.
As director of the firm's audit and accounting department, Lisa specializes in financial statement audits, Single Audits and employee benefit plan audits. When asked about his experience with Lisa as his auditor, Ben Shifrin of the Jemicy School described Lisa as “extremely accessible and very easy to work with.”
Working with nonprofits is a passion for Lisa both in and outside of the office. Lisa is the chair of the board of directors of Richcroft, a Baltimore nonprofit that supports individuals with developmental disabilities. She also serves on the audit committee of Alpha Chi Omega Fraternity, Inc. Lisa is a past board member and treasurer for Community Law in Action, a community-based nonprofit dedicated to developing young people to be leaders.
She helped launch Gross Mendelsohn's women's initiative, known as RISE, and is chairperson of the program. Recognized as a national leader in gender diversity, she spoke at the American Institute of CPAs' Women’s Global Leadership Summit, sharing insights and inspiring audience members to implement diversity programs at their own firms.
Lisa holds the American Institute of CPAs’ Not-for-Profit Certification, which is awarded to CPAs who prove their proficiency in nonprofit financial reporting, auditing, governance and tax compliance.
“Lisa Johnson was exactly what we needed. She always clearly communicates what will happen next and explains the reasoning behind everything she does. Lisa is also extremely patient and is always willing to teach me about different requirements, best practices and things of that nature.”
