The End Is Near for Windows 10: Steps You Should Take to Protect Your Business

By: Bill Walter

As you may have heard, after October 14, 2025, Windows 10 will no longer be supported. If your computers are still running on Windows 10, you will need to take action soon.

Here’s why updating to Windows 11 is crucial to your organization’s security, and the steps you should take to get ahead of Windows 10’s end of life.

The Threat of Outdated Software

Once Microsoft ends support, security patches will no longer be released — making any machine running Windows 10 the weakest point in your business’s line of defense. Without regular updates and patches, these systems become vulnerable and can be easily exploited by cybercriminals, which not only puts your data at risk but can lead to significant financial losses and damage your organization's reputation.

Installing critical updates to hardware and software is one of the pillars of cyber security. So, our team recommends acting now to ensure your day-to-day operating systems are secure.

What Steps Should You Take Now?

The first step is to review your current workstations. Some machines will automatically upgrade to Windows 11, but some will not due to lack of required specifications or appropriate licensing. For those machines, replacement before October is highly recommended. And don’t forget this also applies to your personal/home machines currently running Windows 10.

If you are hesitant to make the change due to the different look and feel of Windows 11 — don’t worry. Windows 11 can be configured to mirror Windows 10, and you will still be protected from the many cyberthreats we all face.

Benefits of Upgrading

Upgrading to Windows 11 will ensure your organization stays safe. Windows 11 comes with more features and security options, as well as continued support from Microsoft. Being proactive about upgrades and replacements now will keep you from having to run a fire drill later in the year… and could help with fitting the purchase of new machines into this year’s budget.
