Downtown Baltimore Child Care
What Our Client Says
"Our industry has changed a lot, and it’s going to continue to change. Our ability to remain not only as a viable nonprofit, but a thriving nonprofit, is due to the support that we’ve gotten from Gross Mendelsohn.”
— Hilary Roberts-King, Executive Director
About Downtown Baltimore Child Care
Founded in 1983, Downtown Baltimore Child Care (DBCC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, early education organization that provides childcare services to Baltimore-area families. They have three locations that serve children from 12 weeks-old through pre-kindergarten.
The Situation
DBCC works with Tricia Thomas and Jocelyn Diaz on the nonprofit’s audit.
When DBCC required a Single Audit, it changed everything about how their audit was conducted. Jocelyn and Tricia were integral in helping DBCC interpret the new type of audit procedures and documentation that was required for a Single Audit.
In recent years, there have been many more opportunities for grant funds to come into DBCC, which has changed the way they do business. The organization had to pivot, and Tricia and Jocelyn were able to quickly adapt to the changes.
As DBCC’s executive director, Hilary Roberts-King, puts it, Jocelyn is like a fine-tooth comb — extremely detail-oriented — and Tricia is like a hot knife through butter — straightforward and easily distills complex information. Both work well together to see the big picture and focus on the specifics.
